Amitabh Bachchan slashed his fees for his next film, Jhund, in half and urged producer Sandeep Singh to put the money on the film instead. The actor will portray a football coach who brings underprivileged children together to form a football team in the sports drama. The film is based on the life and events of Vijay Barse, the creator of Slum Soccer, who used football to rehabilitate Nagpur's street children. It is directed by Nagraj Popatrao Manjule, who previously directed Sairat, and will be his debut Bollywood film.

Sandeep Singh, the producer of Jhund, recently said that he could only imagine Amitabh Bachchan as football coach Vijay Barse, considering the film's low budget. However, Amitabh, who is also a huge football fan, was so captivated by the script that he agreed to accept a pay reduction. His employees did the same, reducing their salaries so that the money might be spent on the film instead.

"Mr Bachchan loved the script," Sandeep said in a recent interview. "When we were figuring out how to bring him on board, given the film's [modest] budget, he stunned us by cutting down on his fee. He said, 'Instead of spending on me, let's spend on the film.' His staff too slashed their fees." he added.

Sandeep mentioned that the project was still facing financial difficulties despite Amitabh Bachchan and his team's goodwill. In Pune, director Nagraj Manjule constructed a set for the film in 2018 but had to close it owing to a lack of funds. After then, filmmaking came to a halt for nearly a year, until T-Series read the script and chose to fund the film.

Sandeep remarked, "We shot the entire [film] in Nagpur, thanks to Bhushan Kumar (T-Series chairman) who believed in us. These kids were handpicked by Nagraj, his brother and his team from Nagpur's streets. That's why their body language is so raw."

Jhund is set to be released on March 4th. The film will include a handful of fresh faces in addition to Amitabh Bachchan and Sairat stars Akash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru.
